New Feature: Donor Covered Fees

Posted on December 9, 2020

In a time when nonprofit organizations are counting on the support of their donors more than ever, we are thrilled to release this feature that will allow organizations to receive 100% of the intended donation by passing the transaction fees onto the donor.

We believe this is just another way to engage your donors. Many donors don’t know that you have to pay transactions fees when they donate by credit card, so, this feature allows them to go the extra mile for your mission and cover those fees.

How Does It Work?

As an account administrative, you can turn on Donor Covered Fees once logged into the Dashboard.

When you have it set to pass on fees, all future transactions will pass the credit card processing fee onto the donor. Once set to pass fees, it will apply for all your DipJars, Spark, and SparkVirtual campaigns for your organization.

What does it look like to Donors?

You have the option to display gross (before transaction fee) or net (after transaction fees have been deducted) donations on your thermometer.

Select ‘Donation Display Option’ when creating your campaign, or editing pre-existing campaigns to choose whether to display gross or net donations.

Note: turning on this feature will retroactively adjust the displayed amounts. It will not affect any donations made, but will simply change donations to show in gross or net dollars depending on which option is chosen.

How does the Donor know they’re paying the Fees?

When using your DipJar, we suggest downloading the sign from the Dashboard to use next to your DipJar to notify donors that they will be covering the transaction fees associated with their donation.

For Spark and SparkVirtual campaigns, the donor will see a message on the donation page that tells them a transaction fee will be added to their donation at checkout to cover the credit card processing fees.
